According to a notice released by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) on May 8th,IPOS has launched the Patent and Trademark Acceleration Program on May 20, 2025, to help applicants receive examination opinions more quickly.
The entire notice lists 16 relevant points, providing detailed information on the application time, eligibility, process, and fees for patents and trademarks.
Due to the extensive content, the editor has extracted several important points for your reference:
(1) Regarding patents
1. Applicants can choose the speed of acceleration:
Received the first review comments within 4 months after successful submission
Received the first review comments within 8 months after successful submission.
2. The follow-up review opinion notification will be issued within four months after the successful application.
(2) About Trademark
The regular review cycle is 6-8 months, and through accelerated review,The time will be shortened to 3-6 weeks
(1) Regarding patents
1. Accelerate search and review time
If received within 4 months after successful submission, the fee is SGD 1800
If received within 8 months after successful submission, the fee is SGD 900
2. Accelerated review time
If received within 4 months after successful submission, the fee is SGD 1200
If received within 8 months after successful submission, the fee is SGD 600
3. Accelerate response to review comments:SGD 150
It should be noted that the acceleration fee here does not include the patent application fee
(2) About Trademark
1. Fully adopt the categories of pre approved product and service descriptions in the IPOS classification database
SGD 200 per category
2. Partially or not using categories of pre approved product and service descriptions from the IPOS classification database
SGD 250 per category

(1) Regarding patents
1. The patent application is not a divisional application in Singapore;
2. The patent application corresponding to the request for accelerated examination must meet the substantive examination requirements for patentability, and the scope of its claims shall not exceed the total of 20 independent and dependent claims
3. The applicant must submit an accelerated examination request through patent form PF11 (Request for Search and Examination Report) or PF12 (Request for Examination Report), and simultaneously pay the accelerated examination officer fee
4. The accelerated examination application approved under the SG Patents Fast program may submit the PF13A form (written opinion response) to the Patent Office for its subsequent examination procedures (such as the defense procedure against the written opinions of the International Searching Authority), and enjoy the priority disposal right in the response stage of the examination opinion notification.
5. Each applicant entity (including natural persons or legal entities) is subject to a mandatory quota limit of 5 acceleration review requests per month; This quota does not apply to requests for extension of accelerated procedures that have already entered the substantive examination stage (such as acceleration of response to examination opinions).
(2) About Trademark
1. Application Subject Requirements
a. This application must meet the following requirements:
Belonging to the domestic trademark application (i.e. the original application submitted directly to the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) through the Trademark Registration Application Form (TM4 form));
Exclude applications for certification trademarks and collective trademark categories;
2. Procedural requirements
The applicant must submit an accelerated examination request at the same time as submitting the TM4 form and simultaneously pay the accelerated examination officer fee.
