2. The current trademark law in Paraguay includes Law No. 1294 issued on August 6, 1998, and a decree issued on August 14, 1998.
3. Paraguayan trademarks are managed by the Paraguayan Industrial Property Office and the official language is Spanish.
4. Paraguay adopts the Nice classification for trademarks and does not accept applications for multiple categories in one table. The elements that can be registered as trademarks include: text, name, graphics, three-dimensional identification, color combination, etc.
5. The acquisition of trademark rights is based on the principle of prior registration.
Paraguay is a party to international intellectual property treaties such as the WIPO Convention, the Paris Convention, and the TRIPS Agreement, and has not yet joined the Madrid Agreement or the Madrid Protocol. Therefore, trademark registration in Paraguay can only be processed through "single country registration".
The validity period of the trademark is 10 years from the date of registration; Renewal can be processed within 6 months before the expiration date, with a grace period of 6 months (with additional fees) and a validity period of 10 years.

Submit application documents to the Paraguay Industrial Property Office;
The examiner will first conduct a formal review, that is, to examine whether the application requirements and classification information comply with regulations;
Once the formal review is approved, an announcement will be arranged, and a 60 day objection period will be set from the announcement date. Any interested party may raise objections;
If there are no objections or objections are not valid during the announcement period, the examiner will conduct substantive examination; If the review fails, a rejection notice will be issued and a response will be required within the specified time;
After the substantive examination is passed, the trademark will be approved for registration and a trademark registration certificate will be issued to the applicant.
If the whole process goes smoothly, it will take about 14-16 months.
