The current trademark regulations in Mongolia are mainly based on the revised Mongolian Trademark and Geographical Indication Law on June 10, 2010, which is managed by the Mongolian Intellectual Property Office. Trademark exclusive rights need to be obtained through registration. Trademark registration is not mandatory, but in order to protect the trademark or renew it, it must be registered in accordance with the law. The trademark registration in Mongolia adopts the principle of "application first".

Registered types
Mongolia can apply for text trademarks, graphic trademarks, letters, numbers, three-dimensional logos, color, sound, and odor trademarks, as well as combinations of these elements. It can also apply for trademarks of multiple categories, including text trademarks, graphic trademarks, color trademarks, sound trademarks, and odor trademarks.

Duration
The validity period of a registered trademark is 10 years from the date of application. The request for trademark renewal must be submitted to IPOM 12 months before the expiration of the registration validity period, and can be processed within a grace period of 6 months after the expiration. The validity period of each renewal registration is 10 years, calculated from the day after the expiration of the previous trademark validity period.

Trademark revocation
If a registered trademark has not been used for five consecutive years, anyone can file a request for revocation of the published trademark.
Mongolia is a signatory to international intellectual property treaties such as the Paris Convention, the Nice Agreement, the Nairobi Treaty, and the Singapore Treaty on Trademark Law. It is also a member of the Madrid Protocol and the Madrid Agreement.
Therefore, trademark registration can be processed through either "single country registration" or "Madrid international registration".
Request the unit initiating the registration of the trademark to provide detailed information, such as name, category, application date, etc. After completing this information, the enterprise needs to go to the local trademark office in Mongolia to verify the content.
After completing the verification, the applicant or enterprise needs to fill out an application form and submit it to the local bureau to apply for trademark registration. The specific requirements that need to be included in the application form, as well as the type of goods or services or mixed goods or services, the applicant's name, etc.
After filling out the registration application form, the applicant also needs to pay the corresponding registration fee, which may vary depending on the type of registration.
After paying the registration fee, the applicant or enterprise needs to bring the application form to the bureau to issue relevant certification materials to prove their subject qualification, whether the application meets the requirements, and confirm the authenticity of all application materials.
After receiving all the application materials submitted by the applicant, the Mongolian office will review the registration application to confirm whether it meets the conditions of the application.
After the examination of the registered trademark is completed, the Mongolian office will publish it in the filing form to prove the corresponding rights.
After the Mongolian bureau publishes it in the filing form, it will issue registration to the enterprise applying for registration.
1. Enterprise name and address (in both Chinese and English);
2. International classification of goods/services and designated list of goods/services for use;
3. Copy of business license;
4. 5 copies of trademark design, requiring clarity and good paper quality. If it is a color trademark, one black and white draft and five color drafts need to be submitted; The specification shall not be less than 5cm × 5cm, and the maximum shall not exceed 10cm × 20cm;
5. If already used, provide the earliest date of use in the registered area when applying.
