  • trademark law

The current trademark regulations in Mongolia are mainly based on the revised Mongolian Trademark and Geographical Indication Law on June 10, 2010, which is managed by the Mongolian Intellectual Property Office. Mongolian

  • Registered types

Mongolia can apply for text trademarks, graphic trademarks, letters, numbers, three-dimensional logos, color, sound, and odor trademarks, as well as combinations of these elements. It can also apply for trademarks of multiple categories, including text trademarks, graphic trademarks, color trademarks, sound trademarks, and odor trademarks.

  • Duration

The validity period of a registered trademark is 10 years from the date of application. The request for trademark renewal must be submitted to IPOM 12 months before the expiration of the registration validity period, and can be processed within a grace period of 6 months after the expiration. The validity period of each renewal registration is 10 years, calculated from the day after the expiration of the previous trademark validity period.

  • Trademark revocation

If a registered trademark has not been used for five consecutive years, anyone can file a request for revocation of the published trademark.

Mongolia is a signatory to international intellectual property treaties such as the Paris Convention, the Nice Agreement, the Nairobi Treaty, and the Singapore Treaty on Trademark Law. It is also a member of the Madrid Protocol and the Madrid Agreement.
