After receiving the patent application documents, the Lao Intellectual Property Office first conducts a preliminary examination, mainly examining whether the patent application documents are complete. If the documents are incomplete, the examiner will notify the applicant to complete the application documents as required. After the preliminary examination is approved, the Lao Intellectual Property Office will make the application documents public.
After the preliminary examination is approved, the Lao Intellectual Property Office will conduct a substantive examination of the application documents. After the patent is granted, authorization registration is required.
The Lao Intellectual Property Office does not conduct substantive examination on its own, but instead entrusts China, the European Union WIPO、 Singapore and other countries conduct reviews and international searches. The examination and retrieval fees shall be borne by the applicant themselves.
