1. The Somali Trademark Law is the fifth ordinance promulgated on January 22, 1955, and was revised and implemented on January 18, 1975 until now.

Due to the lack of an independent trademark system in Somalia, it is not possible to apply for registration of trademarks one by one. If it is necessary to apply for registration of Somali trademarks, it can only be handled through the African Regional Industrial Property Organization, which Somalia has joined.
The validity period of a Somali trademark is 10 years from the date of registration. If it needs to be continued to be used after the expiration of the validity period, an application for renewal should be made within 12 months before the expiration, and each renewal is valid for 10 years.

After the trademark registration application is submitted, only formal examination will be conducted. No priority application. Foreign applicants can obtain trademark registration under the same conditions as Somali citizens. Those who are dissatisfied with the examination opinions of the Patent Office may appeal to the court.
After the issuance of the trademark registration certificate, a notice will be published in the official "Trademark Announcement". There is no objection procedure in Somalia, and the prior user of a trademark that has an objection to its registration can file a request for revocation within 5 years of the trademark registration.
