2. The current trademark regulations in Algeria are mainly based on the Trademark Law promulgated on July 19, 2003.
3. The Algerian National Industrial Property Administration is responsible for managing trademark affairs, with Arabic as the official language and French as the common language.
4. The trademark registration in Algeria follows the principle of "application first".
5. Currently, Algeria adopts the Nice Classification 11th edition of product and service descriptions and accepts applications for multiple categories with one standard. The elements that can be registered as trademarks in Algeria include text, name, graphics, three-dimensional identification, color combinations, slogans, etc.
Algeria is a party to international intellectual property treaties such as the Paris Convention and the Nice Agreement; As a member state of the Madrid Agreement and Madrid Protocol, trademark registration can be processed through either "single country registration" or "Madrid international registration".
The validity period is 10 years from the date of application; Renewal can be processed within 6 months before the expiration date, with a grace period of 6 months (with additional fees) and a validity period of 10 years. Renewal documents: signed and stamped power of attorney, scanned copy of trademark certificate.
If a trademark has not been used for three consecutive years, an application for revocation can be filed.

Application acceptance review approval issuance.

The examiner will conduct a formal and substantive examination of the application to confirm whether the application documents are complete and whether the applied trademark meets the basic registration requirements; If the review fails, a rejection notice will be issued and a response will be required within the specified time;
If the examination is passed, the trademark will be approved for registration and a trademark registration certificate will be issued to the applicant.
Algeria does not allow joint applications (i.e. only one applicant's name can be filled in).
Moreover, unlike most countries, Algeria does not have a system of public objection.
If the application process goes smoothly, it takes an average of 18 months for Algerian trademarks to be registered.
