4. The trademark registration in Belize follows the principle of "application first".
Belize is not a member state of Madrid, therefore, it can only be processed through "single country registration".
The Belize trademark is valid for 10 years after registration, starting from the date of registration. Renewal can be applied for at any time before expiration, and the validity period after renewal is also 10 years.
1. Trademark design: Prepare the trademark design you want to register and ensure that it does not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others.
2. Category of goods or services: Clearly identify the category of goods or services you want to register for official review and classification.
3. Company certification documents: Provide proof of your company name, address, name of legal representative, nationality, and other relevant information.
4. Trademark agency authorization letter: If you choose to entrust a trademark agency to apply, you need to provide an authorization letter.
5. Application Form: Fill out the application form, including the trademark name, applicant information, category of goods or services, etc.
Before submitting the application, it is necessary to search for the required trademark to ensure that the selected trademark name and design have uniqueness and distinctiveness in the Belize market.
Submit the required documents to the Belize Intellectual Property Office (BZIPO) or submit an electronic application through an online platform.
BZIPO will conduct a formal and substantive review of your application, which may take several weeks to months.
If your trademark passes the substantive examination, BZIPO will announce the trademark. Anyone can raise objections within 30 days from the date of the announcement.
If there are no issues after the announcement and objection period, BZIPO will approve your trademark registration.
Once your trademark is approved for registration, you will receive a registration certificate issued by BZIPO.
